Cognizance/Observer only stores the content of your messages, your email and (hashed and salted) password, and your decisions as an Observer. We store no other PII. We also collect information used for reporting, moderation, and likes. An IP address is kept for no longer than 30 days for the purpose of spam control.

Ads and tracking

We do not have any ads on the site, and do not use any third party analytics data.


We implement a variety of security measures to help keep your information secure. For instance, all communication with the app and website require HTTPS. Passwords are hashed, not stored in plaintext, using industry-standard methods.

Data Access, Changes, and Deletion

You may only maintain one account on Cognizance/Observer. If you wish to delete your account, please send an email from the account to Deleted information may be kept in backups for short periods of time to facilitate disaster recovery.

Cognizance/Observer may delete your information at any time, and for any reason, such as technical needs, legal concerns, abuse prevention, removal of idle accounts, data loss, or other reasons.

Information for foreign compliance

Information may be processed, stored, and used outside of the country in which you are located. Data privacy laws vary across jurisdictions, and different laws may be applicable to your data depending on where it is processed, stored, or used.

By using Cognizance/Observer and providing your information, you authorize us to collect, use, and store your information outside of the European Union.

We never collect or maintain information at our website from those we actually know are under 13, and no part of our website is structured to attract anyone under 13.
